Celebration 5 news
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - CORRECTED Five Clubs, Five Patches for C5 Five of the largest Star Wars collecting clubs in the US are pleased to announce a set of five themed patches for Star Wars Celebration 5. The participating clubs are The Washington DC Area Star Wars Collecting Club (DCSWCC), The Kentucky Star Wars Collectors Club (KSWCC), The Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club (OSWCC), The Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society (PSWCS), and the Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance (SWGFA). The five triangular embroidered patches, each sponsored by one of the clubs, fit together like a puzzle to form a larger image of Boba Fett, the show's de facto mascot. Design and artwork for the patches was provided by long-time web cartoonist Bill Cable. All five patches will be available exclusively at Star Wars Celebration 5 and free to attendees, but quantities are extremely limited. Each club will be distributing their sponsored patch in a different way, which will be announced separately. DCSWCC is one of the largest and most active collecting clubs in America, with over 60 members. The club meets monthly and holds special events throughout the year such as socials, picnics, and "Roadshow" appraisal events. For more information, visit the club website at http://www.dcswcc.org KSWCC is a locally based club focused on helping members become better collectors, and helping each other in achieving their personal collecting goals. In addition to three regional monthly meetings where members keep fresh with what's new and in the stores, KSWCC holds larger annual gatherings which include the annual auction fund-raiser, Fall Social, and the Regional Holiday Gift Exchanges. For more information, visit the club website at http://www.kswcc.com OSWCC is a great resource where collectors all over the Buckeye State can discuss collectibles, toys, and generally anything Star Wars. Their three regions host monthly meetings, and they have a strong online forum for their 275+ members. The club attends many local toy shows and has outings to big conventions like Celebrations 2, 3, and now 5! For more information on OSWCC, visit http://www.oswcc.com, where you will find up-to-the-minute information on how to obtain their piece of the patch. PSWCS celebrates their 10th anniversary this year, and a highlight of the festivities is participating in their fourth Star Wars Celebration. Their 360+ members are dedicated to enhancing the collecting experience through networking, education, and social events. You can learn more about PSWCS at http://www.pswcs.com The SWGFA consists of three clubs in the state of Florida: The Orlando System, The Tampa Star Wars Club, and The Treasure Coast Star Wars Club. They hold quarterly socials, local monthly meetings, and group outings. These clubs represent fans of the Saga, collectors, costumers, and above all, those who share a love for all things Star Wars. For more information on the Alliance, visit http://www.swgfa.com # # #

David Prowse Portrait for Action Aid
Subject: David Prowse (Darth Vader) self portrait for ActionAid Date: Tue, 25 May 2010 16:17:37 +0100
Hi Richard,
I’m working with ActionAid to help create some awareness around their ‘Make Your Mark’ campaign.
As part of the campaign David Prowse (Darth Vader) has provided ActionAid with a ‘self portrait’ of the Dark Lord himself and I thought this might be of interest to your readers.
Although the event is taking place in the South West, I’d love to get some coverage of the campaign on your website. I can also arrange for David to do a Q&A or interview with you if you are interested?
‘Make Your Mark’ invited people to submit self-portraits for a huge mosaic that will be unveiled on Bristol’s College Green on 1st June. The pictures will make up the face of 5-year-old Enid from Uganda, who represents the 72 million children around the world who do not attend school because of poverty.
As dedicated Star Wars fans we’d love your support to create some awareness around this campaign and help fight child poverty. J
ActionAid are holding the event to help find 1,000 new child sponsors, so they can support 1,000 children like Enid and their communities. Regular donations from sponsors help communities turn that support into whatever’s needed most – whether it’s a new school building, trained teachers, healthcare services, clean water supplies or help to build sustainable livelihoods.
You can find out more about ‘Make Your Mark’ here:
http://www.actionaid.org.uk/index.asp?page_id=102423
I’ve also attached a press release about David’s contribution and his self-portrait image if you want to post it.
Regards,
Alexei

R2-D2 at April 2010 Clubnight
It was a busy night at the April 2010 club night with the highlight of the evening provided by Owen Wright's self built R2-D2. Owen has constructed the unit from scratch and the finished unit would be hard to beat by anyone. It is remote controlled with all the R2 sounds and even the little arms on the front open up. There is no doubt that Owen is extremely talented and he is to be congratulated.
To see video footage of R2-D2 in action at Costessey School fete go to:-

Here is the blurb from the publishers info:
Hi! Believe it or not, I'm a world famous actor. No really, I am. Hey! Don't put the book back! Let me explain ...You may not recognise my name or my face for that matter but it's very likely you've seen me at work. I've managed to cram quite a bit into my thirty-year acting career. In fact I've helped put more bums on cinema seats than Will Smith or Tom Hanks. Who else can say that they've helped destroy a Death Star? Defeated an evil sorceress? Taught magic to Harry Potter? Become a Jedi Master? Reluctantly hitchhiked across the galaxy in search of the answer to the Ultimate Question? Or embarked (six times, no less) on a psychotic killing spree as a gold-obsessed leprechaun? I've also performed in a jazz club with the late, great Ray Charles, been kicked in the head by Ricky Gervais (twenty-three times) and have successfully navigated the Peterborough one-way system on more than one occasion. You may also have noticed that, at three-foot-six, I am ever so slightly below average height. My genes are arranged in a vaguely peculiar manner, which means I have a disorder that no one can pronounce (spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita go on, try!) and very few people understand. This has thrown up its own trials and tribulations particularly when my wife and I tried to start a family but also in an everyday kind of way surviving a supermarket shopping trip, getting into fights with drunks, that sort of thing. So, without further preamble except to add that George Lucas, Carrie Fisher, Val Kilmer, Ron Howard, Ricky Gervais (amongst others) have chipped in I urge you, discerning reader, to read on and discover what life is like when it really is too short. At the very least, George Lucas will finally explain why there really is no underwear in space and who wouldn't want to know that?
Warwick A. Davis made his screen debut as Wicket the Ewok in 1983's Return of the Jedi. His extremely rare condition has led to a career as the world's leading little actor.
