Details Lord Mayor's Procession 2009

Norwich Lord Mayor’s Street Procession

Saturday 11th July 2009

Set Off Time 6:45pm

The details for the participation of The Norwich Star Wars Club in the procession are as follows.

At 3:00pm the entrance to Newmarket Road from the outer ring road will be restricted to procession floats and supporting vehicles carrying equipment for the floats. No other vehicles will be allowed in.  All supporting vehicles must leave the set up area before 5:30pm.

Anyone involved in our participation may park their vehicles on the grassed area at Notcutts’ Garden Centre on Daniels Road.  Parking is free but please note that the car park will be locked at 11pm and will not be opened again until 9am on Sunday.

You will have to walk from the car park to our float which is position number 36.  Anything you take with you will have to be carried throughout the procession as there will be no provision to carry anything on a vehicle.  The Club will be supplying a limited amount of bottled water.

If you wish to change into your costume when you get to our float then your normal clothes and suitcases can be left in Mark Sayer’s support van which will meet you again at the end of the procession.

Our float, which will be Dean Peruzzi’s pickup, will be carrying the laser cannon gun and a snowtrooper.  All other participants from our Club will be a walking group. It will be in the position at number 36 at 4pm.

We would like as many people in costumes as possible to come along and especially the children from the Jedi Training Academy.  Please make a special effort as this is the biggest event in our calendar to show off the Norwich Star Wars Club.  Parents accompanying the children can walk alongside with buckets to collect money for the procession charity which this year is Voluntary Norfolk. Please bring your own buckets.  If you can wear something which is Star Wars related such as a T shirt then this would be great or you might want to make your own Star Wars costume !!

We would like the adult members of the costume gang to be at our float as soon as possible after 4pm as the Lord Mayor and her entourage together with Radio Norfolk and the television companies will be looking around the floats.  As the procession does not set off until 6:45pm it is suggested that the children arrive a little later but no later than 6pm.

The first float will set off at 6:45pm and will take the route Newmarket Road, St Stephen’s Road, St Stephen’s Street, Red Lion Street, Castle Meadow, Upper King Street, Tombland, Palace Street and finish in Fishergate or Whitefriars for large vehicles.  Fishergate and Whitefriars are drop off points only and vehicles will not be allowed to remain there.

It will be up to each participant to make their own arrangements to return to their vehicles after the procession although the Club will try to set up some transport arrangements in the meantime.

There will be a collection point at the end of the route where your full buckets of money can be emptied.

The judging point for the floats is different this year and will be in Tombland so we should make sure that we are all together at this point.

SAFETY

There will be lots of vehicles and people moving about both in the set up area in Newmarket Road and drop off point in Fishergate so extreme care should be taken in these areas especially as the children will be in a high state of excitement and may not be aware of their surroundings.

Light saber fights should be discouraged as we don’t want any accidents.  It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure the safety of ourselves and others.

ENJOYMENT

We want everyone to enjoy the procession. The public watching the procession give our Club an especially big reception and I can guarantee that the wall of sound that hits you as we enter St Stephens Road will make your hair stand up on end.

We need your support so please make every effort to come along in costume.

If you have any queries, ring David on 07513 045789 but not between 2nd and 9th July as he will be abroad. Alternatively ring Richard on 01603 461828.
