Norwich
Star Wars Club UK
Since being released in 1977, the Star Wars film franchise has
been a
major success story, with a growing fan base every year. This has been
helped with the films being released into theatres again so newer,
younger audiences can appreciate the wonders of the films.
Two
such fans who remember the original release wanted to help people
embrace the franchise and bring Star Wars fans together. In 1999
Richard Walker and Mark Sayers formed the Norwich And District Star
Wars Club. In its infancy, it started with just two members, but over
the last twelve years membership has grown, not just locally, but
worldwide,
to around a 1200 members.
The club hosts a fan meeting once
a month. Here you can meet and chat with other like-minded Star Wars
fans. Children can take part in Jedi training and eventually earn a
certificate to say what level of Jedi training they have reached.
In
addition to the club meetings, the club has its own costume group
which attends various fetes, carnivals and promotional events.
Most of the
costumes are home made but are a close representation of those worn in
the films. As well as around thirty costumes, the costume group has a
collection of impressive backdrops depicting sets from the films. Last
year saw the arrival of a new prop, an impressive fifteen feet
tall AT-ST.
The
club also has a very good relationship with many of the actors from the
Star Wars films and know them on a first name basis. They are always
pleased to meet with us.
If you wish to find out more about the club, please go to the About Us page.
